District Crossfit ProAm - Charity Event for the Navy Yard

District Crossfit hosted a charity event at their new location in Southwest DC across the street from the Nationals baseball park. We really wanted to support this event because the Navy Yard is our home. We live a block from where the shootings happened. We have patients who work in the building where it happened. And our friends were directly touched by this event, losing loved ones. We put everything we have into every event patient, but there was just something more emotional about supporting this particular event. We tried to keep it professional, but we were definitely thinking about the Navy Yard family.

The Pro-Am consisted of a series of competitions that included crossfit amatures and coaches teamed up together. Reebok sponsored a large number of participants and was on hand to show crossfit apparel off. Their products looked pretty awesome! Definitely something to keep your eyes open for.

The event had a great turnout! As usual, we provided full treatments to everyone. It was really fun to catch up with crossfitters that we had treated two or three weeks ago at another competition, and to see tha they are doing really well. I often try to explain to people that our therapy can work wonders in a single session and I see them doubting me, but here's the proof that seeing a better trained therapist makes a big difference. Besides my personal vindication, it's just fantastic to see that our hard work makes a difference in people's lives. We made a commitment to not just use these events as marketing, but to really make a difference in people's lives, and we think it's paying off.

At the Pro-Am we were able to treat around 33 patients, which we estimate was about 20-30% of the competitors. We did this with only Claire working the physical therapy tables, as Rachel was seeing patients at the clinic today. Unfortunately, we didn't quite work in everyone. But the remaining wait-listed folks Fred Flintsonted it as soon as the awards were mentioned, heading over to Park Tavern for some beer and food.

We cannot thank District Crossfit enough for being a good neighbor and bringing this family together. This was our first opportunity to really work directly with District Crossfit and we were really impressed with their operation. We loved the family atmosphere they have. Their coaches are pretty great and one of them is even from the Gulf Coast, which is always cool in my book since that's also where I grew up. We also loved the facility, which is an industrial style warehouse with great windows, garage doors that can be opened up, plenty of space, and just had a great feel to it. It's a great addition to the neighborhood.

As a courtesy to everyone, we took photos and posted a few to our Flickr page. If you want, please feel free to add your photos to the page as well!
