Neuromuscular Treatments

"Neuromuscular" is one of those terms that is often bandied about without a true understanding of it's meaning. Neuromuscular diseases or ailments are those that affect the muscles and their direct nervous system control. Neuromuscular diseases include Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's Disease, and Strokes which can leave people in need of retraining or maintenance of the neuromuscular connections. In children this includes diagnosis such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Charcot Marie Tooth, and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Neuromuscular re-education, neuromuscular massage and neuromuscular rehabilitation are often terms ascribed to orthopedic treatments. Whether you have a true neuromuscular disease or not we are very good and getting the nerves and the muscles working in unity. It is well known that movement or active therapies are far more effective than passive therapies. Looking at movement patterns, muscular tightness, muscle recruitment, overall stability and symmetry are just a few of the tricks up our sleeves to getting systems to maximum capacity.
